Day 5 - Izmir Part iki (2)

We started our day driving to the Kadifekale fortress to have some chai (Turkish for tea) and overlook the city of Izmir.  After walking around the few shops there and presenting Ryan with his very own "Man Bag" as an early birthday present, we went down to the Archaeological museum which was filled with lots of pottery and statues from the roman period as well as textiles.  We learned how rugs and scarves are made and printed on, and then headed back into the heart of the city for lunch.  Lunch was a delicious meal of meat and pita, with a sort of cinnamon cheese bread things.  Everyones favorite was the chocolate pudding dessert. The rest of the day was free for us to walk the beautiful markets and enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee with our tour guide Tosun. Some of us find beautiful gifts to buy, some discovered new Turkish musical instruments, and some went back to the hotel for a break.  The hotel is right near the sea, so we were also able to enjoy the views from there.  Tomorrow we head out again! Enjoy some of our pictures from yesterday!!
